"In 1882 (i) Vanessa began the 6 year task of making Eric Bogle's son "And the Bank Played Waltzing Matilda" come to life visually - which acted as a kind of 'support' to the original song, as it was recorded by Eric.  Eric's version with piano was the one  I worked with most closely, as not only was it a slower version, but seemed to represent the sorrow and pitiful situation that was so evident at Gallipoli.  The almost uplifting chorus floating through at regular intervals likened itself, in my mind, to be the false hopes which must have been continually with the diggers. At some point, if you have the song on disc, play it whilst reading the lyrics.  I guarantee you will be moved as much as I was, and still am.   My research had given me the idea of Sulva Bay as the background and with talk of changing our flag, I made the decision to use the flag in the layout as it was clearly seen as the flag our men fought under. The RSL  Sub Branches throughout Australia are presently purchasing them for use as School presentations - Special Awards and fundraising as a means of educating future generations who should never forget the sacrifices made for our great country and ultimately our freedom. I hope in the reading this hasn't proved too lengthy, but remember it took me six years to do!!. Vanessa Crisp ©
