Bush Stone Curlew burhinus magnirostris
These birds do not usually migrate, but they do
move locally in bad weather. They are ground-
living birds and gather their foods - various
inverterbrates such as beetles and grasshoppers -
on the ground. Bush curlews breed between
August and January, making a scrape or small
clearing on bare ground, generally near a bush or
tree, or beside a fallen dead limb. They are night
birds, and call in a mournful, wailing, high pitched
wee-loo or wer-loo.
