The African Lovebird

Lovebird Society of Queensland and became incorporated in 1986, changing to The African
Lovebird & Foreign Parrot Society of Qld Inc in December 1994.

Shows
The Society strongly
believes in the showing of birds, highlighting the standards to which breeders must
attain, and demonstrating to new breeders what their birds should look like.
In the early days of the Society, there was a great deal of importance on the
knowledge of genes, as many colours were not available and had to be bred - over over a
period of years. The club holds the high principles of pure breeding and not
cross-breeding with other species, producing freaks and mongrels.
Show
Days are highlights of the club events, with members
travelling long distances to show their birds, often with trailer-loads of boxes - all
trying for that purple ribbon! Judges classes are also held regularly, in order that
younger and newer members can assist at Shows, relieving the burden of the
"older" judges who faithfully turn up each Show.
Sales Tables are there with a comprehensive range of all the
latest products, and having a Veterinarian Surgeon for our Patron goes a long way to
keeping us in touch with modern trends. Dr Ron Woodhead is a great help to
the Society, always willing to fill in should a guest speaker be unable to attend.
Meetings are held 4th Wednesday of each money in Dutton Park
State School commencing 7.30pm. Come early and get your sales table items first.
